Take Action

This month there are a number of opportunities for you to help California leverage early learning opportunities through the new federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). ESSA encourages early learning as part of school and district efforts to improve outcomes for children, especially English language learners and children from low-income families. Beginning  June 16 and through June 28, the California Department of Education (CDE) and County Offices of Education are holding five regional meetings seeking input from the public on  the developing California’s ESSA plan. This is a chance to ensure the plan reflects the importance of early learning by, for example, promoting effective pre-k family engagement strategies, ensuring collaborative professional development, and aligning PreK-3rd grade. The first session is Friday, June 16 in Sacramento.

Stay tuned for advocacy opportunities soon!
